COEX is proud to have co-organized the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Summit in March of 2007. On March 17th, 2007, 36 representatives of 26 organizations from eight countries met to discuss the protection of imperiled wildlife in wild places through the creation of innovative economic solutions that allow wildlife and people to coexist and to thrive a mission we came to describe as wildlife enterprise. Representatives of wildlife friendly projects from around the world came together to identify important challenges. Many common threads emerged, despite the spectacular variety of settings and communities in which these projects are embedded. The conference joined private-and public-sector experts to examine the potential of products, markets and consumers to achieve wildlife conservation in a just, sustainable and profitable way. We all gained a renewed sense of unified purpose in our work. Most important, the participants agreed to unite individual efforts for collective action to build a communication and action network that will link Wildlife Enterprises globally. Over two days at the White Oak Conservation Center, the participants founded the the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network . Download the Executive Summary, 140kb of the Summit. |
